Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
