Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack left him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
